May i advise anyone who thinks about booking the Manofa hotel to save themself their money and health by reading the following:-You would be better off sleeping round the back of CS with the junkies than in any room in the Manofa. As previous reviews have said, this hotel clearly has a rodent problem, i stayed there in 2002 and found rats about 2cm from my sleeping wifes head! I found the staff to be rude and inconsiderate, the 'so called' manager was also rude and aggresive. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Amsterdam: Manofa Hotel: "Ack. Could this be worse?"

Could this place be any grosser?! I woke up to the nibble-nibble of a rodent inside my backpack eating my trail mix. The fire alarm had some horrible red schmeared stuff on it I tried very hard not to look at, chuncks of plaster where falling off the wall, the carpet was absolutely disgusting AND it was freakin' expensive! Completely horrible. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Despite Drop in Teen Drinking, Levels Are Still High

By Janice Billingsley

THURSDAY, Sept. 16 -- Levels of teen drinking, while down from a generation ago, are still high enough to pose considerable health risks, a new federal study finds.

"We've seen that while the levels of drinking among teens are down from the highs in the 1970s, the curve has flattened out. And over the past 10 years we haven't really made a dent in the number of kids engaging in this behavior," said study author Vivian B. Faden, associate director of the Division of Epidemiology, Services and Prevention Research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

"This study means that we probably need to do things differently than we have in the past," Faden said.

Alcohol is the "number one" drug of choice among children and adolescents and its abuse contributes to a wide variety of academic and social problems, risky sexual behavior and motor vehicle crashes, Faden said. This makes it imperative to find new ways to curtail drinking among youngsters, she added.

The study appears in the September issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research.

For the study, Faden and her colleagues analyzed three federally funded national surveys that studied teen drinking by using a new statistical tool called "joinpoint" analysis, a method that enabled them to look at all the data simultaneously. This ability to analyze a large amount of data provided a sophisticated and objective overview of the trends in teen drinking, Faden said.

"This method allowed us to pick up significant changes in the direction of drinking levels," Faden said. One of the key findings: Although alcohol-consumption rates have declined since the 1970s, perhaps due to changes in minimum drinking age laws, rates of drinking since 1990 by children ages 12 and 18 have remained relatively stable.

These stable rates reflect a still unacceptably high rate of consumption, Faden said.

Rates for any alcohol drinking in the 30 days before the surveys ranged from 20 percent of eighth graders to nearly half of all 12th graders. Rates for binge drinking over a previous two-week period ranged from 12 percent of eighth graders to 29 percent of 12th graders. Binge drinking is defined as four or more drinks at one time for a girl, and five or more drinks at one time for a boy, Faden said.

Clearly, more needs to be done to keep children from drinking, said Faden, who is a team leader on a National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism project that is studying new ways to reduce teen alcohol consumption.

"We are in a position to amplify the science and envision that the next generation will have more tools and will be more effective than we have been in the past in increasing understanding about this problem," she said.

Michael Nuccitelli, executive director of SLS Health, an adolescent and early adult drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Brewster, N.Y., agrees that more attention must be paid to alcohol consumption by young people. He thinks one answer is to focus more attention on the problem.

"Those drinking rates [in the survey] are very close to the rates in our patient population," he said. "And in order to continue the decline in adolescent alcohol abuse, there needs to be an ongoing education campaign."

"Everybody pooh-poohed Nancy Reagan's 'Just Say No' program, but there was a lot more focus in the '80s on alcohol and drug prevention. I can't recall the last time I saw an alcohol-prevention commercial on television," he said.

what a dump, the pictures on the site do not give a fair representation of this hotel. me and my wife arrived at the hotel had to climb about forty steps before we got in the hotel reception no help with our bags was provided. we then checked in we were on the top floor fourth floor again no help with bags (no lift) as we were about to enter the room the next room to us was blaring out music as loud as possible we entered our room there was no room to pass each other it was that small. one of the beds pillows had a hole in it there was a light not working the room was very dark there was a hole in the wall, a wire hanging down over the bed where a light should have been a wire hanging off the wall in the en-suite. we did not dare leave our things in the hotel we went to look for another hotel. we found the crowne plaza just around the corner a very nice hotel and for the same price we paid online!!! we went back to our hotel and checked out. the reception girl only said why didnt we asked to be moved to another room...my answer was what other room could you have put us in the place is a dump...her reply well we are only a 2star hotel...that is no exscue for holes in the wall, wires exposed and holes in the pillows and general cleanliness poor. i would not recommend this hotel to anybody i have stayed in better b&b's for less. the worst thing about the hotel is the safety issue we did not feel safe and dare not leave anything in the room. do not stay at this hotel!!!

O que tal este...

I am sure there are more revolting places to sleep, but I certainly don't think they cost over 100 euros a night. It smelled hideous, the carpets were toxic, sticky, and stained with god-knows-what, the "breakfast" in the overpriced hotel downstairs (which we found out was included accidentally) is just cereal and old ham and cheese, the towels were yellow and smelled of cigarettes, the bed was wobbly and the linens filthy, there are no elevators in a 4th floor walk up, no soap at all in the bathroom, the shower curtain was gooey and slimey, and 3 people of our group had their passports stolen from their rooms. There is a sign behind the front desk that says they are not responsible for any items left anywhere o othe premises, presumably so they can make a few extra euros off lifting passports. The pictures on their website are a best-case-scenario, possibly the only good thing that can be said is that the bathroom fixtures seem to have been installed in the last couple of years, and the there was tv, albeit fuzzy. The location is very convenient, but there are about a million other hotels in the area so don't bother with this one.

O bien...

Well, I've just got back from a 3 night stay at the Manofa. We booked it a week before and i happened to stumble across these reviews on the internet. Needless to say, I wasn't too keen on staying, but seems how we had to pay the first night, we went to see what it was like and planned on going somewhere else if these reviews were true. We were in a room for 4 on the second floor. There are lots of steep steps and no lift so don't go if you struggle with stairs. Don't take a haevy suitcase like me either. The bathroom was clean, so was the linen and the beds were fairly comfy. Fair enough, the building is old, but not falling to pieces or anything. The TV had music channels so we were happy with that. I think the rooms that share amentities on the lower floors are probably a bit worse, but ours was fine. We saw no rats and the staff assured us that they were brought in by a guest and that Rebnto-kil gor rid of them, so don't let that put you off!!The hotel is very close to the station and right in the middle of everything. The breakfast is a bit rubbish though, buns and ham and cheese, and if u leave it til 10 there might not be much left. oh, and I wouldn't pay for the 'Full English' wither as it was the worst cooked breakfast I've ever had.All in all, this an OK hotel.

Para finalizar...

I´m sure this hotel is a part of criminal organisations, while i stayed there at least 3 passes were stolen. People were walking in and out of the hotel all the time, may i say suspicious people at the least! Walked to the reception, got a key, went in to the hotel and came out about 5 minutes later. I was sitting for an hour or so in the reception room (yeah they got a sofa there!!) and alot of kids (local it seemed) went in and out like they had an agreement to go in and loop passports. You are safer to keep the passports on you than in this hotel!!

Bienvenidos(as) por Lic. Rogers

Pues bien, cualquier duda: pandilla_peda arroba hotmail punto com
